About FLIP for the Coast

Mission and Vision

What We Are All About

At FLIP for the Coast, we believe family learning is powerful! When families learn together and connect in nature bonds are forged that reach across ages and generations. Come along and let's FLIP things around and create a world for our children that center around family and outdoor experiences. In today's society we can find our families caught up in the hustle and bustle of work, school, and individual activities. FLIP provides the opportunity to slow down and engage together in time as a family learning, exploring, connecting.

What We Offer

We explore different coastal locations around Rhode Island and focus on various outdoor topics while leaving room for the natural curiosities of the child-like wonder that resides in both children and adults along the way.

Our Mission:

To strengthen family bonds through interactions with

the natural world.

Our Vision:

To create stronger communities that grow to become our stewards of nature.

Meet your Instructor

Carrie A.

Carrie Alward is a professional environmental educator and owner of FLIP For The Coast. She has over 14 years of experience teaching in outdoor settings across marine and woodland habitats to both children and adults. Her classes focus on intergenerational learning which gives space for family members of every age to engage and get involved.

She understand that every family member has their own unique curiosities and experiences to contribute to the learning process, this is why she believes that when families learn together they grow together and connect deeper to the topic.

Her teaching style is experiential and engaging with exploration and hands-on opportunities that connect your family with nature.
